Kashmir Family Tour Packages, Planned at an Easy Pace
Quick answer
Kashmir family tour packages usually cover Srinagar, Gulmarg and Pahalgam over five to seven days, with hotels, a private car with driver and sightseeing. For families with children and elderly parents, a good plan keeps daily drives short, includes gentle sightseeing such as a Dal Lake shikara ride and leaves a free half day to rest. Roaming Routes shares a written quote for your dates.
Prices shown are starting prices, per person on twin sharing unless marked per couple or per group. Your final quote depends on travel dates, hotel category, vehicle and group size.
Planning Kashmir with kids and parents
A family trip to Kashmir works best when the plan follows the slowest traveller, not the fastest. Children tire quickly on long drives, and older parents often feel the cold and the altitude more than they expect. So we plan family holidays around short drives, gentle sightseeing and enough time at the hotel to rest.
The good news is that much of what families love in the valley is easy to enjoy. A shikara ride on Dal Lake, the Mughal gardens in Srinagar and the meadows of Betaab Valley near Pahalgam need only easy walking. Where a spot needs a longer walk or a pony ride, we tell you in advance so everyone can choose what suits them.
A comfortable route and pace
A typical family plan covers Srinagar, Gulmarg and Pahalgam over five days, like our Kashmir Family Special. With six or seven days you can add Sonamarg or Doodhpathri without rushing, as in the Complete Kashmir Experience.
Pacing ideas that work well for families:
Start in Srinagar so everyone can settle in before heading to the hill stations.
Gulmarg is about 50 km from Srinagar, roughly 1.5 to 2 hours by road, so it works as a day trip or an overnight stay.
Give Pahalgam two nights if you can. It is about 95 km from Srinagar, roughly 2.5 to 3 hours by road.
Keep a half day free for rest, a little shopping or simply sitting by the river.
Leave after breakfast and aim to reach the hotel before dark.
Vehicle comfort and local transport
Your family travels in a private car with a driver for transfers and sightseeing, so you can stop for snacks, photos or a toilet break when you need to. If you are a large family, carry a lot of luggage, or travel with a wheelchair or walker, tell us early so we can suggest a vehicle that fits.
Some sightseeing in Kashmir runs on local transport. In Pahalgam, trips to Aru Valley, Betaab Valley and Chandanwari usually need a local union taxi. In Gulmarg and Sonamarg, ponies and local taxis are common for reaching the higher spots. Your written quote will make clear what is included, and we will explain how it works before you travel.
At Gulmarg, the Gondola cable car is a family favourite. The first phase is the gentler choice for most families. The second phase climbs much higher, so anyone with heart, breathing or blood pressure concerns should check with their doctor first. Gondola tickets are best booked online in advance, as they can sell out in busy months.
Warm clothes, health and timing
Kashmir is cooler than the plains for much of the year, and mountain weather changes quickly. Pack layers, a warm jacket, caps, gloves and shoes with good grip for everyone. In winter, children and older parents need proper thermals and waterproof boots. Our packing list by season has a full checklist.
A few simple health tips:
Carry regular medicines for parents, with a few spare days of doses.
Keep water and snacks handy, and ask your doctor about motion sickness medicine for the winding hill roads.
Use sunscreen and sunglasses, since the sun feels strong at altitude.
Spring and early summer (roughly April to June) and autumn (September to October) are comfortable for most families. Winter usually brings snow to higher places like Gulmarg, but it is much colder and roads can close after heavy snowfall, so keep plans flexible. Our guide to Kashmir with kids and parents has more tips.

Questions travellers ask.
Anything else? WhatsApp us: a real person from the Batakote office will answer.
Yes, with a relaxed plan. Sights like Dal Lake, the Mughal gardens and Betaab Valley need only easy walking. Anyone with heart, breathing or blood pressure concerns should check with a doctor before going to very high points like the second phase of the Gulmarg Gondola.
How many days are enough for a Kashmir family trip?
Five days covers Srinagar, Gulmarg and Pahalgam at a comfortable pace. Six or seven days lets you add Sonamarg or Doodhpathri and still keep time to rest.
Do we need local taxis in Pahalgam if we already have a private car?
Usually yes. Aru Valley, Betaab Valley and Chandanwari are generally visited in local union taxis, and in Gulmarg and Sonamarg ponies or local vehicles are common for the higher spots. Your written quote will show what is included.
What is a good time to visit Kashmir with children?
April to June and September to October are mild for most families. Winter usually brings snow to higher places like Gulmarg, but snow on exact dates cannot be guaranteed and children need proper winter clothing.
Can you arrange a bigger vehicle for a large family?
