A relaxed route through the valley
Most premium trips begin in Srinagar. A night on a houseboat, an evening shikara ride and the Mughal gardens at Nishat and Shalimar set a calm tone. Our houseboat and shikara tips explain what to expect on the water.
Gulmarg is about 50 km from Srinagar, roughly 1.5 to 2 hours by road, and is known for its wide meadows and the Gulmarg Gondola.
Pahalgam is about 95 km from Srinagar, roughly 2.5 to 3 hours, and sits along the Lidder river. Aru Valley, Betaab Valley and Chandanwari are usually visited in local union taxis rather than your own car.
Sonamarg is about 80 km from Srinagar, roughly 2.5 to 3 hours, with mountain and glacier views and pony rides towards Thajiwas.
Local union taxis and ponies are also common for some sightseeing in Gulmarg and Sonamarg. They are hired locally on the day, and we explain how this works before you travel.

Choosing your season
Spring (March to April): cool days, blossoms and Srinagar's tulip garden, which usually blooms for a few weeks in this window.
Summer (May to August): pleasant weather and green meadows, with some rain in July and August. May and June are busy, so premium rooms and houseboats fill early.
Autumn (September to November): clear skies and, later in the season, golden chinar leaves. A lovely time for a slower trip.
Winter (December to February): snow is common in Gulmarg and Pahalgam, but it is never guaranteed on specific dates, and higher roads can close after heavy snowfall.

Yes. You can add one or two nights on a Dal Lake houseboat, usually at the start of the trip. Tell us your preference and we include it in your written quote, subject to availability on your dates.
Can our private car take us everywhere in Kashmir?
Your private car covers the main drives between Srinagar, Gulmarg, Pahalgam and Sonamarg. For Aru Valley, Betaab Valley and Chandanwari in Pahalgam, and some sightseeing in Gulmarg and Sonamarg, local union taxis or ponies are usually used, and we explain how this works before you travel.
How many days do we need for a relaxed luxury Kashmir trip?
